October 2013

Thank you to all who still visited @maggiezlenz while I was 'inabsentia'
The past months have been very dry and the constant search to try a find something to photograph in a barren garden left me rather despondent!
I am surprised and happy to see that the blog had over 500 visits during the time that I posted no photos. Your support is appreciated.
Now that we have had our first Summer rains the garden has 'come to life' again. I hope to be finding interesting things to photograph in the coming months.

Just to prove that my camera was used for more that just puppies, I post a few photos out of the many taken on the 20th during the only trip to the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park in October. It was a rather grey overcast day and we had to make do with the light we had.
We were greeted by a number of Giraffe and Zebra soon after entering the Park

Nearby two Zebra were at play - bums in the air and biting at one another's legs. This reminded me so of a  previous post where we were sitting quitely in the car when Zebras unexpectedly came out of the bush to run and play. You can see the collection of photos by clicking on the words "previous post"

A beautiful Drongo - Square-tailed or Fork-tailed? Although this one has a very distinctive Forked tail, my bird book clearly states that the Square-tailed has red eyes :)

The Zincakeni Dam was bone-dry. Such a sorry sight,
A lot of rain has fallen over the last two weeks and I hope to visit again this weekend to see what the dam looks like now.
Above is another first sighting for me! A Lesser Jacana - note the long toes!
I have often seen the African Jacana which is a bigger bird with distinct blue on it's face.

It was a very overcast day which made it quite difficult for photography.
Although 'moody'  I still love this view atmaggieztree
