Zoomed to the absolute limit but I just HAD to get a shot of the baby!
Despite bad weather and the distance, the little poser can be clearly seen.
On 12 October when I took a photo of the purple splendour of the Jacaranda tree that grows in the neighbouring property, I noticed the Laughing Dove sitting on a nest.
I have been watching the nest and for the last few days I noticed the puffiness of the parent - clearly keeping more than just eggs warm! I was thrilled that it eventually made an appearance today.
The nest is too high for me to see into it - but from within my house, I can only see one chick.
Mom and Dad take turns on the nest - I do not know which parent this is.
I did not see any feeding taking place today - I must have missed it, because twice I noticed
a second mature bird on a nearby branch.
Sadly, Mynah-birds are pestering them at the nest- probably to try and get hold of the baby?
Perhaps I should apply for maternity leave to help guard the nest and keep the Mynah's away!!
The Mynah-birds are a menace. They destroyed the Sun-bird's nest (posted earlier this month) and ate the eggs.
That is so touching Maggie - what a magnificent capture. Hope the Mynahs keep away....
