| Aloe Cancer A rather strange photo today! This is the second year that the Aloes on the rockery have not flowered. The 'hairy' seeds that have clung to it, make a very interesting picture, though. Note to self: I will have to get rid of these plants.... The "Aloes of Southern Africa" book states that Aloe cancer is caused by a severe infestation of mites that cause abnormal cellular growth in the effected parts of the Aloe. |

ReplyDeleteMaggie, Jenny Dean says to just cut away the affected parts and they will recover. Obviously if they don't then dig them up and throw them away. What she did say, which was of interest, is when you cut the 'cancer' away wash your implements and put the diseased pieces in a bag for disposal immediately. Apparently, unlike hguman cancer, this can be passed on.
ReplyDeleteMost interesting, Maggie. Amazing shot too!. I found large, spiky purple galls on the stems of Clanwilliam daisies and on cutting them open, found the larvae of some type of insect.
