We sat in the car at a lookout point with a flask of coffee and sandwiches,
The Nyala ewe and calf were behaving very strangely on the opposite bank of the river.
We then noticed movement in the water

The Nyala ram had been killed by Crocodiles!

In between resting they would clamp their teeth into the flesh of the Nyala and thrash
around to tear pieces off to eat

Dramatic as the moment was, one of the Crocodiles dashed after something in the water.
I thought it was probably trying to chase away the other Crocodiles

As it re-appeared it became evident that it had caught a huge Barbel
The poor Barbel most likely was only looking for scraps when it became Sushi

This might not be a good photo because I had to go maximum digital zoom, but it does
show the grip of those razor sharp teeth

A couple of fine maneuvers to re-position the fish before swallowing it whole.
After the Sushi, the crocodile went back and joined the other crocs at the Nyala kill
It was quite sad to see the ewe and calf return a number of times to the waters edge.

The stare.....

The identity of this beautiful little bird remains a mystery.

We were sitting at the river enjoying the sounds of nature when this huge Elephant
appeared from an opening in the bush on the opposite bank.
He casually drank water, turned around and disappeared into the bush again.
We were certainly there at the right time, otherwise we would have missed it.

African Pied Wagtail - caught when the tail was not wagging :)

On a chilly Winter's morning. This Laughing Dove has the right idea.
Fluff up the woollies and stay warm.
