Not a large Mosquito, but a Crane Fly. (Diptera)  The internet tells me that the 'handle bars' behind the wings are known as halteres. Halteres function as balancing gyroscopes, or so they say.
I think they are for fairies to hold on to ....

    So delicate, and those are certainly perfect fairy wings - I would have mistaken it for a mosquito.

    Beautiful... I love these Crane Flies and love the idea that the halteres are for fairies to hold on to :)

    Before I read your final comment Maggie I thought 'they must be for the fairies to hold onto'. Great minds certainly do think alike.
